Adoption Policy: We have no adoption form, folks just drop in, pay the $15 county fee plus a mandatory $8 rabies shot (if older than 6 mos.) and can go home with their new pet.
We recommend that the following be performed upon your pet's adoption
3. Frontline Plus (for fleas & ticks) ranges from $15-$20 depending on size of animal
4. Fecal test (for parasites) varies according to medicine used to treat parasites

The Animal Shelter At Twin Oaks Veterinary
The animal shelter is located at Twin Oaks Veterinary Hospital in Sparta, NC. It is at the intersection of 21/221 across from the Twin Oaks Cafe/Gas Station. Upon arrival, the shelter is located in back of the grooming/office building. Pets are contained both inside and in the outside kennels. Please do not open any kennel without the assistance of a Twin Oaks employee.

Who we are:
The Alleghany Animal Shelter is managed by Twin Oaks Veterinary Hospital in Sparta, NC. The shelter receives unwanted dogs, cats, kittens, and puppies dropped off by residents of Alleghany County. The shelter also receives stray animals collected by the dog catcher.
Our hours are-
Monday through Friday 8:30-5:00 and Saturday 8:30-12PM.
Please Note: All pets marked URGENT because they have been at the shelter the longest and therefore face being put to sleep in order to make room for incoming animals

Sissy is a young (less than 1 year old), all black, DMH kitty. She's super friendly - which is why we had such a hard time getting her picture. She kept wanting kisses and pets from the photographer!
She's a real sweetheart

Cyndee is a 14 week old orange tabby DMH. She's very friendly and is very soft to hold. We think she’d be fine with other cats.
